Royal Docks opens London’s first residential rooftop running track

The first residential rooftop running track has opened up at the Queens Cross development in east London’s Royal Docks. Fifty metres high and with a view of the Thames, Canary Wharf, and the City, the track is the latest in a series of homes launches aimed at wellness and fitness-obsessed residents.

“Young people want opportunities and London’s first residential rooftop running track gives residents here the chance to train, be active and maintain a healthy lifestyle,” Olympic gold medallist Christine Ohuruogu MBE said at the unveiling of the 77m track. “Residents at Royal London Docks can now run, swim or jump on a Peloton bike. If they’re a keen triathlete, they can do all three,” said Jon Hall of developer Mount Anvil.

The track is part of a residents’ members’ club, Eden House, which includes a swimming pool, Peloton cycling studio, gym, and sauna. The track, yoga studio, and entertainment room will open early in 2025.

When finished in 2027, the development is expected to have 854 homes, 262 will be designated ‘affordable.’

Twenty-seven studio and one-bedroom apartments will remain for sale at Queens Cross, with prices starting from £413,000. There are a further five studios remaining at the nearby Royal Eden Docks whose prices start from £378,000.

Royal Docks properties were priced at £434,000 over the last year. Most homes sold there were flats with average prices falling by 7% compared with 2022 and 12% compared with their 2021 peak of £494,000.

Earlier this year, Mayor Sadiq Khan published a £2 billion, five-year plan for the area Up to 36,000 new homes and 55,000 new jobs, he predicts, can be created at the Royal Docks which welcomed a new City Hall in 2022.

The plans include a new cycling and pedestrian bridge over the Royal Victoria Dock, replacing an existing footbridge. The Silvertown tunnel will provide road connections when it opens next year. It will link Silvertown to the Greenwich Peninsula.
