Richmond Cargo Bike Fair, London’s latest cycling event
Richmond is set to host its first-ever Richmond Cargo Bike Fair on Sunday, 15th June, from 11am to 5pm at Old Deer Park. This free, family-friendly event aims to promote cleaner, greener transport options by showcasing the versatility of cargo bikes. Whether you’re considering a switch for school runs, local deliveries, or daily errands, the fair offers hands-on experiences, expert advice, and entertainment for all ages.
Organised by Richmond Council in partnership with Peddle My Wheels and the Richmond Cycling Campaign, the fair features a dedicated test track for trying out various cargo bike models. Attendees can engage with local retailers and cycling experts to learn about maintenance, safety, and the benefits of pedal-powered transport.
Additional activities include cycle skills workshops, Dr Bike mechanic services, adapted cycles for those with limited mobility, children’s cycling proficiency areas, live music, family activities, and sports taster sessions like tennis and volleyball.
Councillor Alexander Ehmann, Chair of Richmond Council’s Transport and Air Quality Services Committee, emphasised the transformative potential of cargo bikes: “Cargo bikes can be truly life-changing. That’s why we want to put them in the hands of more and more residents and businesses.” The councillor also highlighted the council’s commitment to active travel through initiatives like the Try Before You Bike scheme and the OurBike community hire programme.
The Richmond Cargo Bike Fair aligns with the borough’s broader efforts to reduce car dependency and promote sustainable transport. For more information on cargo bike initiatives in Richmond, visit the council’s official page here.
