National League play-off final saw record crowd

The National League play-off final, which saw Oldham Athletic defeating Southend United 3-2, saw in increased capacity at Wembley. The stadium hosted an additional 10,000 fans, up from 40,000 to 50,000, resulting in a record crowd for the National League.
Both teams are former Football League clubs, but the ticket allocation is determined by the stadium, being set at 40,000 before it was known which sides would compete. Wembley Park station was closed for the day.
The capacity was increased following negotiations between Wembley Stadium, TfL, and the Metropolitan Police. As part of the agreement to increase the number of tickets, both clubs competing in the National League play-off final worked with fans to ensure they had transport arraignments including providing additional coaches. Additional trains were also available with TfL adding more on the Bakerloo line.
“I am delighted that we have been able to work with the FA to secure extra capacity at Wembley Stadium for this hugely important match,” Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said. “I recognise how big an occasion this game is for both sets of supporters who have seen their clubs endure extremely difficult times in recent years.” The match would be “an occasion to remember for fans of Oldham Athletic and Southend United,” he added.
The win for Oldham Athletic in the play-off final sees the side return to the EFL in front of a record crowd for the the National League.
