Mighty Convoy: Delivering ambulances and aid to Ukraine
In the heart of Teddington, a remarkable initiative is underway as Mighty Convoy, a non-profit organisation, spearheads efforts to deliver ambulances and vital medical aid to Ukraine. This endeavour, known as the Convoy of Hope, is a collaborative effort with the International Christian Medical and Dental Association (ICMDA) and the Christian Medical Association of Ukraine (CMAU), aiming to bolster medical support in the war-torn nation.
Mighty Convoy’s mission is both straightforward and profound: acquire second-hand ambulances, equip them with essential medical supplies, and personally drive them to Ukraine. Since its inception, the organisation has successfully delivered 44 ambulances, 4x4s, and pick-up trucks, transporting over 30 tonnes of humanitarian aid to those in need.
The latest convoy departed last week, carrying hospital beds, tourniquets, and surgical gowns to Lviv. From there, these supplies will be distributed to frontline areas, providing critical assistance to injured soldiers and civilians alike. Volunteer driver Colin Greene, instrumental in raising £35,000 to procure the ambulances, expressed his commitment, stating, “I am delighted to be involved in this remarkable project. It is important to support the underdog in this conflict as Ukraine continues to fight valiantly, and I just want to contribute something to help at this pivotal time of the war.”
The urgency of this mission is underscored by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, where medical supplies and emergency vehicles are in constant demand. Lieutenant Mykhaylo Korchynskyy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine emphasised the critical need for international support, noting that such aid is “absolutely invaluable to the Ukrainian cause, helping sick and injured civilians and soldiers alike.”
Mighty Convoy’s efforts are further amplified through its partnership with ICMDA and CMAU. This collaboration ensures that the medical aid reaches the areas where it’s most needed, enhancing the quality and accessibility of medical services across Ukraine. Peter Saunders, Chief Executive of ICMDA, highlighted the significance of this alliance, stating that the international medical community’s generous donations are being effectively channelled to those in dire need.
For Londoners looking to make a tangible impact, supporting Mighty Convoy offers a direct avenue to contribute to these life-saving missions. Donations, whether financial or in the form of medical supplies, play a pivotal role in sustaining these convoys and ensuring that aid continues to flow to Ukraine.
