Hero Market Traders Tackled Alleged Knifeman During Triple Stabbing in South London
Walworth, London – Market traders tackled an alleged knifeman during a fatal stabbing incident in Walworth on Sunday morning, where a man was killed and two others were injured. The attack took place at East Street Market, with police confirming the incident was not terrorism-related. A suspect, believed to be in his 60s, was swiftly arrested on-site.
Around 10:40 am, Metropolitan Police responded to reports of stabbings near East Street Market, a popular shopping area off Walworth Road. Officers found three individuals injured, one of whom tragically died at the scene. Witnesses report that quick-thinking market traders subdued the alleged attacker and restrained him until police arrived.
Wasim Hussain, a nearby shop owner, described the traders’ actions: “They just put him down, and they waited for the police,” he said. “It was the general public – they work in the market, most of them.” A police cordon quickly blocked off several market stalls as authorities investigated.
Commander Peter Stevens of the Metropolitan Police conveyed his sympathies to the victims and their families, adding: “Our investigation is at a very early stage. I urge anyone with information or footage to come forward.”
The incident has left local residents shaken, with one father voicing concerns about his children’s safety, saying, “I feel unsafe to send my kids to school now.” Two other victims, a man and a woman, were hospitalised following the attack.
