London Businesses Welcome UK’s Entry into Global Digital Trade Agreement

In a landmark move to bolster global e-commerce, the UK has joined a comprehensive digital trade agreement signed by 91 countries, including major economies such as China and the United States. This announcement has been met with enthusiasm from London businesses.

Karim Fatehi MBE, Chief Executive of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), hailed the agreement as a significant step forward. “Today’s announcement from the Department for Business and Trade marks a significant moment in promoting global e-commerce,” he said.

The deal is designed to remove custom duties on digital content, creating a more seamless e-commerce environment for businesses. This is expected to streamline international trade and reduce costs for many companies involved in digital transactions.

“E-commerce is a major revenue source for many London businesses, who are the engine room of the UK economy,” Fatehi continued. “Our members welcome today’s groundbreaking announcement and recognise the cost-effective impact this will have on their businesses when it comes to international trade.”

The agreement is seen as a pivotal development for businesses relying on e-commerce, providing new opportunities for growth and expansion in the global market. Fatehi expressed optimism for the future, stating, “We’re encouraged by today’s news and hope to see other economies accept the terms of the deal in the future.”

The move demonstrates the UK’s commitment to enhancing its digital economy and fostering international trade relationships, positioning London as a key player in the global e-commerce landscape.
