Heaven Nightclub Licence Suspended Following Alleged Assault by Security Guard
The world-renowned Heaven nightclub in London has had its licence suspended for 28 days following serious allegations involving a security guard. The incident, which occurred on 1st November, has sent shockwaves through the city, as the club is known as a flagship venue in London’s LGBTQ+ nightlife scene.
The allegations centre around a claim that a bouncer sexually assaulted a woman who had been turned away from the club for being too intoxicated. According to evidence presented at an emergency hearing held by Westminster Council, the woman had queued for two hours with friends before being denied entry.
After leaving the queue, she reportedly sought help from a security guard to retrieve her friends who were already inside the venue. It was at this point that another male security guard allegedly offered assistance, leading her away from the entrance and into a side street. CCTV footage described during the hearing shows the woman, visibly intoxicated and unsteady on her feet, being led into a vehicle where the alleged assault occurred. Police claim the suspect engaged in non-consensual sexual activity with the victim in the back of the car.
Further controversy arose when the woman attempted to report the assault to other security staff at Heaven. According to Metropolitan Police evidence, her claims were reportedly ignored by those on duty. Detectives later arrested the suspect at the nightclub on 11th November.
The licensing committee’s decision to suspend the club’s operations comes as authorities conduct further investigations. While Heaven nightclub remains a staple of London nightlife, this incident raises pressing concerns about safety measures and the conduct of security staff at venues across the capital.
The Metropolitan Police provides guidance on reporting incidents of sexual assault, outlining steps individuals can take to assist investigations and access support.
