Goldfinger 60th anniversary celebrated by one-off Rolls Royce

Rolls-Royce has launched a unique Phantom Extended, the Phantom Goldfinger, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the iconic James Bond film, Goldfinger. This exceptional vehicle pays homage to the 1937 Phantom III Sedanca de Ville, famously driven by the film’s villain, Auric Goldfinger, and represents one of twelve Rolls-Royce appearances in the 007 franchise.

Over three years of meticulous development, the Phantom Goldfinger has been adorned with elaborate bespoke features directly linked to the film’s narrative. Highlights include a sculptural gallery inspired by the unforgettable car chase on the Furka Pass, as well as a gold golf putter cleverly integrated into the boot, recalling Goldfinger’s first encounter with Bond.

The exterior showcases a striking two-tone paint scheme, mirroring the original Phantom III’s vibrant yellow hue. The 21-inch disc wheels, finished in black with silver hubcaps, echo the vintage design, while the Spirit of Ecstasy emblem has been ingeniously crafted to reveal a hint of gold beneath its silver exterior, nodding to Goldfinger’s plot of smuggling gold.

Inside, the Phantom Goldfinger features a hidden vault within the centre console, housing an illuminated 18-carat gold bar shaped like the vehicle itself. The luxurious interiors boast extensive gold detailing, including a glovebox embossed with Goldfinger’s iconic quote, and gold-plated treadplates designed to resemble gold bars.

A standout element is the gallery’s intricate artwork, representing a topographical map of the Furka Pass, where Bond followed Goldfinger. Hand-drawn with precision, it showcases both contour lines and elevation figures, adding a unique artistic touch.

Additionally, the starlit headliner replicates the constellations over the Furka Pass from the day of filming, with 719 stars glowing in a soft gold. Picnic tables within the car feature a 22-carat gold inlay depicting a fictional map of Fort Knox, adding a playful nod to Goldfinger’s sinister plans.

The Phantom Goldfinger encapsulates the spirit of the James Bond with exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail, culminating in a collector’s piece that honours both the film and the storied legacy of Rolls-Royce. As Nick Rhodes, a Bespoke Designer at Rolls-Royce, notes, the creation of this vehicle was a remarkable journey, blending elegance with the whimsy of Bond’s adventures.
