Flood warnings remain in place across the south of England after heavy rainfall on Tuesday 18th December. The Environment Agency (EA) has issued the warnings and alerts for Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, and Dorset. Flood alerts are also in place in other areas including Oxfordshire and Berkshire.
Travellers are encouraged to plan ahead and check their route before hitting the roads, as well as to allow more time for their journey. It is also advised to avoid walking, cycling, or driving through floodwater.
The EA is monitoring river levels and has warned that flooding could be expected as they continue to rise in some areas. Flood warnings mean that the EA considers flooding of homes and businesses is likely and that action needs to be taken. During flood warnings, people are advised to move any valuables, family, pets, and vehicles to safety.
St Francis Animal Welfare in Fair Oak near Eastleigh, posted a video and pictures after flooding began to affect its shelter in the afternoon. After an appeal for help on social media, volunteers were on hand to bring sandbags to prevent the building from flooding.
Festive events and outdoor carol singing have also been cancelled by some venues due to the risk.
