Fleet emissions will need to be disclosed

The UK Sustainability Disclosure Requirements (SDR) framework requires companies and financial institutions to disclose their fleet emissions, revealing their impacts on the environment and society. The rules will kick in the 1st January, 2026, and will include their climate impacts and vehicle carbon reporting.

The SDR hopes to achieve consistent reporting standards with companies needing to report the carbon emissions of their fleet along with their UK energy use, including transport fuel. Greenhouse gas emissions will also need to be disclosed. That includes any electricity used to charge an electric vehicle, whether they are plugged in on the company premises or off-site.

Such reporting is especially crucial for sectors with significant transportation activity as it would be a significant part of their overall carbon footprints. Organisations that need to report their CO2 emissions may struggle to get accurate data about the emissions associated with charging an electric vehicle as part of their fleet.

However, companies will now be able to monitor and significantly reduce their carbon emissions from charging an electric vehicle in the workplace. They can use new technology such as that offered by CrowdCharge which uses AI to provide “accurate measurement of real-world EV charging emissions” or so it claims. It promises to help offer carbon savings of around 40% compared with standard EV emission reporting figures.

“Our AI-driven software measures the carbon emissions involved in charging, and optimises charging to achieve the lowest possible carbon footprint, so ensuring that electric vehicles have significantly lower real-world carbon emissions than petrol vehicles,” Americo Lenza, COO of CrowdCharge, said.

CrowdCharge is a sister company to DriveElectric, a leading EV leasing broker specialising in supporting the transition to electric vehicles for organisations on their journey to net zero.
