Filante Record 2025 sets EV record

Renault has covered 1,000km (621 miles) at motorway speeds on a single charge with its Filante Record 2025. The single seater, unveiled at the start of 2025, inspired by the French marque’s land speed record cars from the 1920s and 1950s. But its goal had been to test the limits of aerodynamic and electric vehicle technology, setting new records along the way.

Aside from distance records, the Filante Record 2025 also aimed to do so with a battery no bigger than that in the Renault Scenic SUV, with the driver maintaining an average of over 68mph or motorway speed, rather than in any eco mode or with a “huge” battery. Powering it was ana 87kWh battery.

The car covered over 1,000km in less than 10 hours, with only technical stops and for driver changes. The car covered it with charge to spare, as much as 11% remaining. The team said this would be enough for an additional 75 miles at over 60mph! That means an impressive 8 miles per kWh, twice that of the new Mercedes CLA, considered one of the most efficient new EVs on sale.

“This project was born from an obsession: achieving record-breaking efficiency,” said Olivier Blanche, Renault’s concept car project manager. “We battled the weather and aerodynamics, but what stands out most for me is the human adventure: an incredibly motivating collective challenge, driven by the dedication of the Renault teams and all our partners”.

While the Filante Record 2025 will remain a concept, its technology and design will have an impact on the cars we will soon be driving. The lessons learned from prototypes such as this help spearhead the development of future models.
