Ferrari has taken the wraps of its latest limited-edition hypercar, the F80, named to pay homage to the company’s upcoming 80th anniversary. It will be produced in a limited run of just 799 cars and follows in the footsteps of the 288 GTO, F40, F50, Enzo, and LaFerrari in “showcasing the best” that the ‘prancing horse’ has to offer.
The F80 is a hybrid, like its predecessor, combining electric power with a turbocharged V6 engine for a combined output of 1200hp, 900 of which comes from the engine alone and the rest from its electric motors. The motors allow it to send power to all-four wheels, which should no doubt help it grip the road better than a two-wheel drive car.
Like hypercars of the past, the F80 will be exclusively sold to Ferrari’s VIP customers. These are people who have bought many cars, including rare and special models, and been deemed worthy by the company to buy this new one. They will have paid seven figures for the privilege of owning a rare and unique car that will turn heads everywhere it goes.
The F80 will rival the upcoming McLaren W1 and all-electric Porsche Mission X when those cars go on sale in the coming years. This may seem like a deja vu as a decade ago, when the LaFerrari was revealed, it was one of three so-called ‘holy trinity’ hypercars along with the McLaren P1 and Porsche 918 Spyder. All were made in limited numbers and sold for eye-watering prices to VIP customers.
The latest ‘holy trinity’ are expected to follow in their footsteps in being the latest and greatest that these firms have to offer.
