Surgeon Achieves World-First by Removing Large Brain Tumors Through Eyebrows

In a medical breakthrough, Aberdeen-based neurosurgeon Anastasios Giamouriadis has introduced a new method for eyebrow brain tumor removal. This innovative technique allows for removing large tumors through the eyebrow with minimal scarring and recovery time. Patients experience only a small scar and slight bruising, marking a major advancement over traditional surgeries that involve removing sections of the skull.

“With this method, patients often wake up immediately and can go home the next day,” said Giamouriadis. Unlike craniotomies that expose healthy brain areas and take up to 10 hours, this modified keyhole surgery allows faster recovery. Known as the “Modified Eyebrow Keyhole SupraOrbital Approach,” this method is significantly less invasive than older procedures.

One patient, Doreen Adams, previously underwent a craniotomy abroad, which required long recovery time and left complications. She described the eyebrow brain tumor removal as a “night and day” difference. With this technique, she left the hospital within two days and resumed her normal life quickly.
