Eagle Lightweight GTR one-off revealed

A new one-off E-Type, the Eagle Lightweight GTR has been revealed as the “road-going evolution” of one of the rarest cars in the world. Eagle E-Types, based in Sussex, are among the best known in the restoration and development of Jaguar’s classic sports car, with its E-Type Special editions, (Eagle E-Type, Speedster, Spyder GT, Low Drag GT and Lightweight GT), becoming famous around the world, thanks to magazines and TV shows including Top Gear.

The Eagle Lightweight GTR is the road going evolution of one of the rarest and most beautiful race cars. The Lightweight E-Type was Jaguar’s intended follow up to the D-Type, with the company initially planning eighteen. Only a dozen cars were made but now, a commissioning client has put one more on the road.

Eagle says it has used “thoughtful engineering and carefully selected materials” to keep the weight down to just 930kg, “without compromising Eagle’s legendary commitment to comfort and solidity.”

Every body-line of the original has been “carefully re-sculpted for a more purposeful, hunkered stance” and the car features a bespoke raked glass, a lowered roofline, and “exquisite craftsmanship throughout.”

Under the bonnet of the Eagle Lightweight GTR is an all-aluminium 4.7-litre straight six with a wide-angled head, titanium connecting rods, and triple Weber carburettors to provide a power-to-weight ratio of over 430bhp per tonne. The gearbox casings are made from magnesium while the exhaust is constructed from Inconel and titanium, all to help keep the weight down.

The independent suspension geometry is revised, hardware including hubs has been remanufactured from titanium and the dampers are adjustable Öhlins fitted with bespoke-rated springs. Brake discs and pads are carbon-ceramic in conjunction with servo-assisted AP Racing calipers. This allows it tips the scales at an impressive 975kg with fluids, 30% less than a standard E-Type Roadster.
