eActros 600 becomes first EV lorry to drive entire mainland

Mercedes-Benz’s eActros 600 has become the first electric lorry to drive from John O’Groats to Land’s End, achieving 1,378km in just over 24 hours, stopping only three times to recharge. The “record achievement”, Mercedes says, proves the viability of an electric HGV to cover long distances. The challenge supported Globe Truckers UK, a mental and physical health charity for drivers.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks set off from John O’Groats on Wednesday 3rd December, arriving a day later at Land’s End. The lorry stopped at Sterling, Sandbach, and Exeter for recharging, demonstrating “not only the long-distance capability, efficiency and technology of the new eActros 600, but also the growing potential for sustainable, fully-electric heavy-duty transport,” according to Mercedes-Benz.
