Commercial flying careers for Richmond residents now within reach through fully funded Jet2 scheme

Commercial flying careers for Richmond residents are more accessible than ever, thanks to a fully funded training initiative launched by Jet2.com.

The programme, Jet2FlightPath, is designed to open up pilot training opportunities to people from all backgrounds – without the barrier of paying over £100,000 in tuition fees. For aspiring pilots in Richmond upon Thames, this could be the breakthrough moment.

Jet2 is offering 60 places in the first year of the scheme, with successful applicants receiving 18 months of Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) training at a partner academy in the UK, Spain or the United States. The airline covers the entire cost, from ground school to simulator time. No prior flying experience is required — just five GCSEs at grade 4 or above (including maths and a science), and the ability to pass assessments and interviews.

The goal of Jet2FlightPath is to widen access to aviation careers and bring more diversity into the profession. Once training is complete, candidates will move on to aircraft type-rating, either Airbus or Boeing, and then join Jet2.com as commercial pilots.

Trainees will also spend time working in other roles across the company, from customer service to ground operations, giving them insight into how the wider airline operates and what makes Jet2 a long-term Which? Recommended Provider.

Currently the UK’s third largest airline, Jet2.com expects to operate up to 135 aircraft by summer 2025. The company says this scheme is just the beginning of its plan to expand and attract future pilots who might not otherwise have had the chance.

If you’re a Richmond resident looking for a bold career move, or if you’ve considered aviation in the past but ruled it out for financial reasons – this could be your route in.

Applications are now open. Visit the Jet2FlightPath application page to find out more.
