Clissold Park shooting: man dies and woman in hospital after Stoke Newington incident

A man has died and a woman is in hospital after the Clissold Park shooting at about 19:00 BST on Wednesday 17 September 2025 in Stoke Newington. Police and paramedics found both, believed to be in their 40s, with gunshot wounds.

The man was taken to hospital and died a short time later. The woman remains in hospital; her condition has not yet been confirmed.

Detectives believe the pair knew each other and say there is no wider risk to the public. Det Supt Oliver Richter called it “deeply distressing” for those involved, witnesses in the park and the surrounding community.

Officers recovered a firearm and a crime scene remains in place. Clissold Park was closed on Thursday 18 September while inquiries continued, with council teams assisting.
