Murder Investigation Launched After Woman’s Body Found in Car Boot

The body of Harshita Brella, a 24-year-old woman from Corby, Northamptonshire, was discovered in the boot of a car on Brisbane Road, Ilford, east London. Police made the tragic find in the early hours of Thursday after concerns for her welfare were reported to Northamptonshire Police the previous day, prompting a murder investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Johnny Campbell, of the East Midlands Special Operations Major Crime Unit (EMSOU), said: “She was a young woman in her early 20s with her whole life ahead of her, and it is absolutely tragic that her life has been cut short in this way.”

Police were initially alerted after visiting Ms Brella’s address on Skegness Walk, Corby, where they received no answer. A missing person investigation was launched, leading detectives to the vehicle in Ilford. A murder investigation is now underway, with police focusing on the circumstances surrounding her death, including the timeframe and location of the attack.

DCI Campbell added: “Although we believe Harshita was attacked by someone known to her, we are keeping an open mind and would appeal to anyone who knew her to contact us with any relevant information they may have.”

Northamptonshire Police emphasised that there is no wider risk to the public but confirmed that additional patrols would be conducted in Corby to reassure residents.

The force has also referred the case to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to prior contact with Ms Brella before her death.

Anyone with information is urged to come forward to assist the investigation, as police work tirelessly to uncover the full details of this case.
