Barons Court Project charity raising funds to expand its space

Homeless support charity, Barons Court Project is raising funds to transform its loft into a new art studio and wellbeing room, featuring laundry facilities, a lounge, and library for guests. The charity, based in Talgarth Road in Hammersmith has been quietly working for over four decades.

Its ‘Raising the Roof’ appeal is live on Spacehive with a funding goal of £361,375. Once the campaign reaches 20 backers, the charity will unlock match funding from Hammersmith & Fulham Council.

“We’ve been here for 40 years, and we want to be here for 40 more,” Michael Angus, chief executive of Barons Court Project, said. “Local people in need deserve more than survival, they deserve dignity, a place to belong and feel at home within themselves. Raising the Roof will help make that possible.”

By expanding its laundry facilities, it can double the amount of washes, allowing guests to be supported with their physical and mental wellbeing. The new lounge and library will offer a calm space to read and reflect, a lifeline for people going through a challenging time.

A mansard rear extension with dormer windows and roof lights will provide the new space with natural light while secure lockers will provide a safe space for guests’ belongings.

The project is also designed to support the charity’s HomeLess Made initiative, a social enterprise that supports artists who have experienced homelessness. It provides them with materials to create and sell their works as prints and cards via the Barons Court Project website, with half of all profits paid directly to the artists.
