Barnyard animals delight Fulham children at Play Streets Event

Children in Fulham recently enjoyed a delightful encounter with barnyard animals, thanks to Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s Play Streets programme. The initiative temporarily closed Moylan Road to traffic, transforming it into a safe, car-free zone where over 80 children from Little People of Fulham nursery and Sir John Lillie Primary School could interact with donkeys, goats, guinea pigs, chickens, and ferrets.
The event was part of the council’s efforts to create a kinder borough by encouraging outdoor play and community engagement. Alison Truss, manager at Little People of Fulham, highlighted the benefits of bringing the farm to the children: “We usually have an annual visit to see farm animals, but it’s a challenge to navigate public transport. Having the travelling farm visit us right by our nursery made it possible for all our children – including babies and toddlers – to safely interact with the animals.”
The Play Streets programme offers residents the opportunity to close their streets for three hours, creating a safe space for children to play and neighbours to connect. The council supports these events by providing necessary permissions and guidance. For more information on organising a Play Street.
In addition to the barnyard animals, the local fire brigade attended the event, engaging with families about fire safety and allowing children to explore the fire truck and equipment. The combination of educational and fun activities made the day memorable for all involved.
