Balearic Islands: Hotels, Hiking Routes and Cultural Highlights

As 2025 approaches, the Balearic Islands are set to unveil exciting new developments across Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera. From scenic hiking trails to luxurious hotel openings and cultural exhibitions, here’s a look at what’s in store for the popular Mediterranean destinations.

Mallorca will debut the highly anticipated East Mallorca GR-226 hiking route in 2025, covering over 104 km through the island’s stunning eastern landscapes. The route will offer hikers four stages, each showcasing the island’s natural beauty, from coastal views to tranquil countryside.

Ibiza is also expanding its hiking offerings with seven new Pequeños Recorridos routes, ranging from 10 to 50 km. These trails will take walkers through the island’s rugged countryside and along breathtaking coastal vistas, opening up more of Ibiza’s hidden landscapes.

To complement these outdoor activities, the Balearic Islands will host key sporting events in 2025, including the Mallorca 312 cycling race, the Ibiza Marathon, and the UTMB Serra de Tramuntana trail challenge, all designed to boost off-season tourism.

For art lovers, the island of Palma is hosting “Mirall” by renowned Catalan artist Jaume Plensa at the La Llotja exhibition space, open until February 2025. This captivating show features two towering sculptures and explores themes of duality, bringing international attention to Palma’s growing cultural scene.

Several high-end hotels are opening across the islands in 2025. Ibiza’s Vibra Yamm Hotel, a 4-star seafront resort in San Antonio, will offer luxury rooms and sustainable facilities. In Menorca, the Vestige Collection will launch two new properties, Vestige Son Ermitá and Vestige Binidufá, offering guests a blend of historical charm and modern amenities.

Mallorca will see the addition of Purobeach Resort Santa Ponsa and Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, both promising lavish experiences with world-class spas and stunning sea views. Palma’s Vestige Miramar, a boutique mansion with panoramic views, is set to become a new favourite for luxury travellers.

These developments position the Balearic Islands as an evolving destination, blending nature, culture, and luxury for a memorable 2025.
