Aston Martin Valkyrie to make South American Debut in São Paulo
The new Aston Martin Valkyrie continues its maiden FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season as it races in South America for the first time. Look out for it this weekend at Interlagos for the Rolex 6 Hours of São Paulo.
After an “encouraging” 24 Hours of Le Mans last month, where both of Aston Martin’s Valkyrie hypercars finished their maiden twice-around-the-clock event without issue, finishing 12th and 14th, the works Aston Martin THOR Team registered the first Manufacturer’s World Championship points in the Hypercar class. It now hopes to build on this with a top ten finish on the WEC’s return to a six-hour race format as the championship moves into the ‘flyaway’ event phase of the calendar for the second half of the season.
The Valkyrie is the company’s first Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) and the only car in the class to be derived from a road-legal hypercar. It is the only LMH competing in both the FIA WEC and in North America’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (IMSA), having scored a top-10 finish in every race it contested in America.
The car made its global debut earlier this year in the Qatar 1812km, demonstrating outstanding reliability, finishing 11 times from its 12 starts in the competition.
Now the Aston Martin THOR Team hopes to return to its two car line-up for the 6 Hours of São Paulo. The #007 will be driven by Tom Gamble (GBR) and Harry Tincknell (GBR) and the #009 by Alex Riberas (ESP) and Marco Sørensen (DEN).
