Air India Dreamliner Returns to Hong Kong Mid‑Flight After Technical Concern
An Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner has returned to Hong Kong shortly after take-off due to a suspected technical issue.
Flight AI315 was en route to New Delhi and departed at 12:16pm local time on Monday. Around an hour into the journey, the aircraft turned back and landed safely in Hong Kong. Passengers were safely disembarked and are being provided with assistance.
An Air India spokesperson confirmed that the pilot suspected a technical issue during the flight. While the exact cause has not yet been established, the aircraft is currently undergoing inspection.
The airline stated,
“We are providing all necessary on-ground assistance to the passengers to minimise the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen disruption.”
This incident follows last week’s fatal crash of another Air India Dreamliner in Ahmedabad, which killed over 240 people. British nationals were among the victims, with the Foreign Secretary confirming their deaths.
Flight AI315 is a regularly scheduled service between Hong Kong and New Delhi. No injuries have been reported in this latest diversion, and passengers are expected to be rebooked onto a new aircraft once checks are complete.
