A40 Westway roadworks begin – will last seven months

TfL says closures and roadworks on the eastern stretch of A40 Westway will begin in November. Work on replacing the tired old joints linking sections of the elevated A40 Westway will affect traffic for seven months.

From 8th November – 25th November, the eastbound stretch of the A40 Westway is shut from Wood Lane and the A3320 Westway roundabout right through to the Marylebone flyover, every weekend from 10pm on Fridays to 5am on Mondays.

However, roadworks will be lifted between the end of November and early January to spare businesses and residents any disruption in the run up to Christmas.

Transport for London – which is carrying out the work – says closures and roadworks on the eastern stretch of Westway will begin next month.

The 50-year-old expansion joints, which allow the flyover to expand and contract with the weather, have reached the end of their useful life.

Roadworks are being focused on weekends to limit disruption to side streets, with eastbound closures taking place first, between 10pm Friday night and 5am Monday.

Then in May it will be the turn of the westbound A40 traffic to be diverted. The road will remain open in both directions on weekdays.

TfL has pledged that residents will be kept updated, and nighttime noise and light will be limited.
