Facility opens in Fulham school to provide autism support

A new facility has opened at a Fulham school to provide support for children and young people with autism. The new facility is part of Hammersmith & Fulham’s £10.4 million investment into specialist support for children and young people.

The council says it has partnered with Ormiston Queensmill Academy to “deliver the tailored autism support” at the new Queensmill facility on the Sulivan Primary School site in Fulham. It is part of the council’s “ambitious” £10.4 million investment into improving the local support that is available in the borough of Hammersmith & Fulham for children and young people with additional needs.

The new specialist facility features “purpose-built” educational spaces that “promote engagement, structure and wellbeing, alongside expert teaching and therapeutic support for up to forty children,” according to the council.

Pupils will be able to follow “highly individualised” curriculum pathways delivered thanks to a “specialist teaching team” with expertise in providing education for those with autism.

The school day will have therapeutic interventions embedded into it, as well as close collaboration between families, external professionals, and partner agencies to “ensure each child receives a personalised learning experience aligned to their needs and aspirations.”
