Kensington and Chelsea’s Ukrainian Community Unites at ‘Together in RBKC’ Event

On 3rd March 2025, Kensington Town Hall buzzed with activity as the borough’s Ukrainian community came together for the “Together in RBKC” event. This gathering saw residents, community groups, and participants from the Homes for Ukraine scheme unite for a day filled with talks, activities, and information sessions.
The RBKC event featured keynote speakers such as Andriy Marchenko, Iryna Terlecky, and Inna Hryhorovych, who shared their personal connections to Kensington and Chelsea. A poignant moment of reflection was led by the Very Reverend Father Mykola Matwijiwskyj, marking the third anniversary of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Attendees of the RBKC event heard heartfelt testimonials from Ukrainians who have relocated to the borough since the conflict began, as well as from local residents who have opened their homes through the Homes for Ukraine scheme. Since February 2022, this programme has facilitated the matching of over 900 Ukrainians with sponsors in the borough, with a continued need for more hosts.
Councillor Elizabeth Campbell, Leader of Kensington and Chelsea Council, remarked on the borough’s enduring ties with Ukraine, highlighting landmarks such as the Ukrainian embassy and the statue of St Volodymyr in Holland Park. She expressed gratitude towards residents who have welcomed those in need and emphasised the event’s role in reflecting on the conflict’s impact and the hope for peace.
The Homes for Ukraine scheme offers an opportunity for eligible residents to provide refuge to Ukrainians fleeing the war. For more information on how to participate, visit the Kensington and Chelsea Council’s official website.
