274 new homes in Lots Road South gain planning approval

Planning approval has been secured for 274 new homes at Lots Road South in Chelsea, including the first purpose-built extra care scheme in the borough. Kensington & Chelsea council has hailed this as a “major step forward” in its new homes programme.

The planning committee approve the application from the council’s development partner, Mount Anvil, for the 274 new homes and the extra care housing scheme, designed to help over-55s in receipt of home care, live independently in their own flats with 24/7 on-site care support when needed.

The scheme will deliver a total of 65 extra care homes at social rent, 53 social rent homes, and 156 private homes. It will also offer a new community square, community centre, Creekside promenade, new trees, and landscaped gardens. An affordable workspace and flexible commercial space will also be part of it, “supporting a vibrant neighbourhood in Chelsea and maintaining its character.”

The Lots Road South scheme, the council says, is a “key part” of its “commitment to increase the supply of genuinely affordable homes and meet local housing need.”

The 274 new homes scheme is “just one part” of its “broader vision for the area,” including plans for a new riverside Lots Road open space. Subject to planning permission, this, according to the council, will “boast seating, a play area, planting, a drinking fountain and ornamental entrance gates.”

The council also plans to improve access to the riverside by extending the Thames Pathway linkages, “connecting the community to nature and offering new opportunities for leisure.”  Opportunities to replace and rebuild the existing jetty on the riverside area of the new open space are also progressing.

In addition, upgrades to the existing Westfield Park have begun, with more being planned, including planting, seating, and a new water fountain, along with new toilets, a new Changing Place, and accessible toilet facility.
