A Winter Retreat of Quiet Luxury in Essex
Glass House Wellness Retreat & Spa offers a tranquil escape for anyone seeking to reset, rejuvenate and relax this winter. Situated in Essex, just 25 minutes from London, Glass House Wellness Retreat & Spa is set amid greenery and is a combination of simple aesthetics and sophistication.
Spa Facilities
The spa boasts a heated leisure pool, sauna, steam room, natural swimming pond, outdoor wellness dome, outdoor hot tub, Finnish sauna, gym, listening rooms and a communal space. Highlights on the day include the outdoor hot tub, which adds a touch of luxury to the spa.

We also visited the Himalayan salt block sauna and steam room to relax and rejuvenate. This can help with muscle loosening and lowering blood pressure. The outdoor wellness dome is the perfect sanctuary for mindfulness and allows those visiting to experience the bliss of healing in nature.

The spa facilities tick all the right boxes: the spa is clean and staff are attentive.
Dining at Glass House Retreat & Spa
The dinner menu at the retreat is fantastic. There are many choices that are suitable for all diners, from lighter dishes to heartier dinner plates. On this occasion, I opted for the pan-fried fillet of sea bass. This dish is served with savoy cabbage, baby carrots and new potatoes. Presented beautifully, the sea bass is cooked with precision. The sea bass is light and tender, and the silky texture is wonderfully delicate.

For dessert, I chose the chocolate mousse, which is made from silky avocado and chocolate mousse. Presented in a teacup, this quirky-looking dessert is a combination of richness, deliciousness and indulgence. But if you’re looking for a dessert with a touch more sweetness, then the cheesecake, which is topped with lemon curd, is a great option.
Overnight Stay
Room options are great here; from a superior double to a premier suite, there really is something to suit everyone. We were situated in a superior king room on the top floor. First impressions: the room is a great size and boasts stunning views of the grounds. The room is around 26 square metres and consists of two double beds and a walk-in shower room. The design of the room is simple, with soft ambient lighting, and is equipped with everything that you will need for a comfortable overnight stay.
Lasting Thoughts
If you’re looking for a serene escape in the heart of Essex that will help you feel rested, recharged and rejuvenated before the new year kicks off, then this is a spot that needs to be added to your list.
