Yorkshire’s rising star shines at London’s Tinsel Town premiere
A young Yorkshire actor stepped confidently into the spotlight at the Tinsel Town premiere in London, marking another milestone in an already impressive screen career. Matilda Firth, aged ten, joined cast and crew on Thursday as Sky unveiled its festive comedy, due for release on Sky Cinema in 2025.
The film stars Kiefer Sutherland as Bradley Mack, a fading Hollywood action hero whose career takes an unexpected turn when he is cast in a small-village Cinderella pantomime. Rebel Wilson also features in the ensemble, which blends Christmas storytelling with the familiar chaos of backstage theatre life.

Speaking on the red carpet, Matilda said the experience had been “magical”, particularly the chance to learn from seasoned performers. “I felt so lucky being able to work with Kiefer and Rebel, and all the amazing cast. I learnt so much from them during my time on set,” she said. Music plays a key role in the film, and she described recording songs for the soundtrack as “just amazing”.
Away from the cameras, she said the atmosphere was warm and relaxed. “Between takes, there was a really lovely atmosphere. We were doing TikTok dances and generally having a good time.”
Filming took place across Yorkshire, with locations in Knaresborough, Wetherby and Leeds. It is a part of the region increasingly used by UK productions, as shown in the latest data on the country’s film economy, including reports published by the British Film Institute.
Matilda plays the daughter of Sutherland’s character and appears at the heart of several key scenes. Her agent, Stacey Burrows, director of Articulate Agency in Shipley, said the young actor has shown unusual composure for her age. “She has remarkable skill and acting ability. Matilda is calm and measured and has her feet on the ground, and I think her Yorkshire roots are to thank for that.”
Despite being just ten, she has built a screen career that includes the 2025 horror film Wolf Man, the 2024 sci-fi feature Subservience, and roles in Disenchanted, Christmas Carole, Hullraisers, Time, Mr Bates Vs Post Office and Nine Perfect Strangers.
Tinsel Town is directed by Chris Foggin and written by Frazer Flintham, Adam Brown and Piers Ashworth, with additional material by Jake Brunger. The supporting cast includes Jason Manford, Danny Dyer and Katherine Ryan.
The film will reach Sky audiences next year, but for Matilda Firth, the excitement is already underway.
