QUEENS ROAD SIGN UNVEILED IN MEMORY OF HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN
In memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Kensington and Chelsea have unveiled black Queens Road signs on Royal Hospital Road.
The road runs between Chelsea Embankment on the north bank of the River Thames to the southwest and a junction with Lower Sloane Street, Pimlico Road and Chelsea Bridge Road to the northeast. Sloane Square its the closest tube station.
Royal Hospital Road is a historical location in the borough with the southwest of the road being home to the Royal Hospital Chelsea, located next to the National Army Museum.
Royal Hospital Road was previously called Queen’s Road and commemorative signs have been put up in honour of the Queen and to acknowledge her passing.
The road has not been renamed although the borough will consider asking residents if they wish for the change to be made permanent.
Lead member for Planning, Place & Environment, Cllr Cem Kemahli said:
We were very saddened to hear of the death of Her Majesty the Queen.
The Queen visited the borough many times, and many residents will have fond memories of her and what she has done for the nation.
Royal Hospital Road in a time gone by used to be named Queen’s Road. Through these small signs, we are reminding people of this history. Bringing together King’s and Queen’s Road once more.
We hope this small act will honour the long reign of Queen Elizabeth II marking her strong sense of duty and her determination to dedicate her life to her throne and to her people.
