Night Safety in Richmond on the Agenda as Council Invites Residents to Share Their Views
Council Seeks Resident Input on New Night Time Strategy Covering Night Safety in Richmond, Along With the Night-time Economy, and Inclusion
Richmond upon Thames is calling on its residents to share their thoughts on the newly launched draft of the Night Time Strategy, aimed at enhancing night-time experience and night safety in Richmond from 6pm to 6am. This initiative forms part of the Council’s public engagement and collaboration with local partners.
The Night Time Strategy aspires to create a vibrant, safe, and inclusive environment after dark. The draft was developed through consultations with a diverse range of stakeholders, including residents, businesses, night-time economy workers, and community groups. These discussions have been essential in addressing key concerns such as safety, accessibility, and cultural activities.
In recent months, over 400 residents participated in the ‘Time to Shine Ideas Map’ initiative. Additionally, workshops with young people and meetings with local businesses and community groups have helped gather a broad array of perspectives and insights into how different members of the community use public space at night.
The strategy focuses on several crucial areas:
- Night safety in Richmond and in town centres around the Borough
- Strengthening the ‘night-time economy’ (bars, entertainment providers, and other businesses that operate at night)
- Growing cultural and recreational opportunities
- Balancing the need for evening quiet for residents
The council is keen to ensure the strategy meets the community’s needs and invites feedback until Monday, 30 September 2024. Residents, businesses, local organisations, and visitors are encouraged to participate in the consultation process.
The community is invited to contribute to these important discussion to help refine the Night Time Strategy, ensuring Richmond upon Thames continues to be a welcoming and lively place at night. Find the full consultation here.
