Kensington and Chelsea Council Announces £4.7m Youth Services Funding
Kensington and Chelsea Council has announced a substantial £4.7 million fund aimed at enhancing services for young residents over the next five years. This initiative, born from a comprehensive Youth Review involving feedback from over 368 young people and 237 adults and professionals, signifies a progressive approach to youth funding.
Unlike the nationwide trend of cutting youth services, Kensington and Chelsea are increasing their investment. With additional match funding of at least £750,000 from the Council’s strategic partner Young K&C, the total funding pot is set to make a significant impact. Young K&C will be instrumental in promoting and allocating these funds.
Cllr Catherine Faulks, Lead Member for Family and Children’s Services, stated, “While other councils cut back, we are innovatively increasing our youth services funding. Our new model, which includes match funding from partners and a diverse panel to award grants, ensures our offer is tailored for young people in Kensington and Chelsea.”
Nicola Butler, CEO of Young K&C, expressed excitement about the partnership, saying, “We’re delighted to work with RBKC on this investment. We look forward to collaborating with local young people to bring their ideas to life.”
Providers will have the opportunity to bid for grant funding in September 2024, with grants being distributed from January 2025. A carefully selected panel will decide which organisations receive funding across three grant categories.
